The Limberlost Challenge

For 16 years Huntsville business have helped to host the The Limberlost Challenge in the spectacular Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve, northeast of Huntsville.  This year’s event is on July 4, 2026.To date, the local business’ on deck for 2026 include: The SportLab, BeesKnees Muskoka, Algonquin Outfitters, Mingles Catering, Threshold Cafe & Collective, Lake of Bays Brewery, Sunbelt Rentals,with more in the wThe The Limberlost Challenge is an annual trail race in the spectacular Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve, northeast of Huntsville.  This year’s event is on Saturday July 4, 2026.

The Limberlost Challenge, one of Ontario’s largest and most technically challenging ultra trail running events with 7, 14, 28, 42 and 56 km races (and a 1km FREE Kids race). 

Some quick facts about the race:

·  The race is an annual event established in 2010 and is always highly anticipated by the running community

·  Over 500 runners participate annually on average (570 registered runners in 2025)

·  Most of our runners come from southern Ontario to compete, with notable numbers from communities local to Huntsville and Toronto, across Canada, the US and Europe. 

·  The ages of our runners are predominantly aged 30-39 years, following in ascending order: 40-49, 50-59, 25-29, 60+, 18-24 years generally equal numbers of female and male with a small number identifying as non-binary. 

·  A significant portion of each runner’s registration fee goes towards a donation to the Trail’s Youth Initiative (https://trails.ca/ ) which brings urban youth to experience the outdoors and grow their leadership skills (we have raised over $100,000 since 2010)

·  Many of the runners treat The Limberlost Challenge as a “destination” and families/friends event and extend their stay in the area for the weekend or longer.  We promote local accommodations through the Chamber.
